High School Honor Orchestra

The Pikes Peak High School Honor Orchestra is an auditioned group of students chosen from various high schools in the Pikes Peak Region. This is an opportunity for students to work with a guest conductor and to play challenging music with other students of like ability. Students will  participate in a live audition, and if selected, the students will then participate in a few after school rehearsals, a full day orchestral clinic, and an evening concert. This concert will be professional recorded and CD's will available for purchase.  The concert will also be recorded for viewing on Comcast Channel 16. The viewing schedule can be found on the District 11 homepage in the red panel under Channel 16.

Parents
Dear Pikes Peak Honor Orchestra Parents/Students:

We wanted to let you know that a professional DVD and group photo will be available for your student's upcoming orchestra concert on January 30. We're the official videographers for District 11 schools and we're confident you will be extremely pleased with our work. We specialize in school event DVD's and our work is of the utmost quality. For this event, we will be using multiple cameras which will insure that you will see plenty of close-ups of your student! A professional full color cover will also be produced for your DVD. I know you will treasure this for a lifetime!

Because most students will only be in a few numbers, and because we want all of you to have this product, we are going to offer it at a very low price to encourage volume sales. The DVD will be offered for just $14.00 (instead of our usual $25) plus mailing costs. We do offer a full money back guarantee (less postage fee) if you are unhappy for any reason, so this takes the risk out of purchasing our product. We will have a sales table and order forms available at the event. We hope you will save yourself a stamp and place your order at the event, but you may also mail your order form into our office; the address will be on the order form. Or, if you prefer, you may call us at 719.488.4491 in case you are unable to attend the live event to pick up a form.

Please know we consider working with your children a privilege and we appreciate this opportunity to serve you! We hope you'll participate in our DVD program and enjoy your student's performance for many years to come.

Sincerely,
John Ridgway

Requirements for Hiring a Guest Clinician
Happy New Year! I’d like to recap our responsibilities going into next week, and ask who would like to be conducting various pieces in rehearsal. I’m submitting the below as a proposal, pending your individual input and approval. If I don’t hear back, I’m counting on you for what I’m requesting below.
Sectional coaches:
Violins: Jesse, Alice if available, Michael. (Jesse, Alice, it would be easier for me to take violin 1 since I’m more familiar with the parts, but I’m flexible).
Viola: Alex
Cello: Sabrina
Bass: I’m going to contract out with Joe Head, principal bass in the CSPO since none of us are specialists.
Brass/woodwind/percussion: Kim and Justin.
Conductors – step up and let me know what you’d like to take on! Mindi has indicated that she would like to focus on the MS chair responsibilities, and I feel a bit of pressure to be free to focus on any admin details that might come up, unless one of the MS people would want to take that kind of thing on during our rehearsals. Ed, Christie, let me know if you would be willing to split time on that during our rehearsals. I recognize it is way beyond the call. Mindi, if you’re not covering musical elements, maybe in this capacity?
I would like to get Alice involved on Bloch since Palmer has done it. Alice, could you please get back to me? Perhaps Justin and Kim splitting time on Finlandia, with Jesse, Sabrina and Alex splitting podium time on Holberg Suite?
Also, I would appreciate input from Kim and Justin on which half of rehearsal they would like to allocate for Finlandia, and also which rehearsals. See my proposed schedule below and let me know if it would work for the two of you. We need to get that information out to students and teachers ASAP. I would suggest that two half rehearsals prior to the 29th, then your choice of the half you would like for the Sibelius on the 29th. Brass/wind/percussion will need a half day on the 30th rather than a full day. Once you let me know which you prefer, I’ll be sure that’s our time on stage at Wasson.
