INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS

This course is designed to describe for students how the American business system operated and to help them prepare to make decisions as consumers, wage earners, and citizens within that economy. Students will be encouraged to utilize the computer laboratory facilities, on an individual basis, and will be provided a variety of opportunities to learn about business through case studies and simulations.
BUSINESS MANAGEMENT/ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Course Length: 2 Semesters Full Year

This course is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in business. It will emphasize general management practices and decision-making. It provides a broad foundation for a variety of managerial careers in business, government, and non-profit institutions. Students will explore management styles and be involved in building leadership skills. Business management students may participate in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and distributive clubs of America (DECA), which operate in this course.

If you look forward to a career in related business fields for which accounting knowledge and skill are needed, or if you seek a foundation on which to continue studying business and accounting at the college level, this course has been designed for you. Students will learn to plan, keep, analyze, and interpret the financial records of various businesses. Students who enroll in this course will obtain personal and job-entry bookkeeping skills and may use these competencies as a basis for advanced study. Job simulation projects provide realistic job experience. Automated accounting activities are included. College credit is available upon completion of course, with an A or B grade, and exam.
BUSINESS LAW

This class is designed to provide students with insight into the American legal system and how they can personally succeed within the system as consumers and businesspeople. The course includes instruction in the legal system, the courts, criminal and court law, contracts, product warranties and liabilities, consumer protection, labor and employment law, creditors’ rights, business organizations, government regulations and agencies, minors and the law and landlord/tenant agreements.
Students will be encouraged to utilize the computer laboratory facilities on an individual basis and will be provided a variety of opportunities to learn about the legal system through case studies, readings and simulations. They will be required to present orally, and in writing, to the class a legal issue of their choice in an informative audio/visual presentation.
