The fall sports season is up and running and the Cougar athletic teams are off to a great start. Coronado currently has over 300 students involved in fall sports. Support our teams!
The boys’ tennis team, coached by John Claus, finished 2nd in the recent D-11 Tournament. Hayden Cramer (#1 singles), Tyler Romero/Wyatt Schrepel (#4 doubles) and Devin Kimball (#3singles) won the tournament championships. The Cougars go to the Regional tournament on October 7-8. Good Luck !
The Coronado Football team continues to work hard as they seek to find a win. The Cougars had early leads in games against Cheyenne Mountain and Canon City but could not hang on to win. Running back/ defensive end, Mark Carle and lineman Tobias Martinez provide senior leadership.
Cougar Cross Country teams are off to another fantastic start. The boys’ team won the 32nd annual Cougar Classic Cross Country Meet @ Monument Valley Park. Undefeated senior Dusty Solis won the meet and is ranked in the top three of all 5-A boys runners. The girls are paced by junior Bailey Gearhart. Senior Softball players Krista Albers, Hannah Brown, Julianna Stephensen, and Kelly Schroeder continue to play hard as the Cougars seek to add a league win to their record. The adverse fall weather, and the strength of the CSML, have both provided tough hurdles for our improving team.
The Lady Cougars Volleyball team finished as Runner-up Champions in the 33rd annual Cougar Classic Volleyball Tournament. The Cougars (5-5) enter league play this week with games against Sand Creek and Doherty. Congratulations to senior setter Erin Stock, who has been awarded a volleyball scholarship to Fresno State University!
The 2009 boys golf team has represented Coronado very well this fall. The Cougars placed in the top three in five tournaments this season. Freshman Max Lovato joined up with leaders John Gorrell (12), Nick Lang (11) and Tyler Hogg (12), for the Regional Tournament, where the Cougars finished in 8th place. The Cougars are currently in fourth place in the CSML standings. The Cougar Classic golf tournament is on September 29th at Kissing Camels.
After playing a tough non-league schedule, the boys’ soccer team started league play impressively. Coronado (3-3-1) defeated CSML foe Palmer 3-1 for a great homecoming day victory. Coach Matt Brickell has been pleased with the effort of his young team. Jason Lemmon and Winston Essideu lead the Cougars in scoring. Coronado continues league play this week vs. Sand Creek.
