CHS PTA
Coronado PTA has had a busy year! The main focus of PTA at Coronado is to increase parent involvement, student achievement, and student safety. To this end, PTA has created programs and activities involving Alumni, Health and Safety, Legislature, the Reflections Art Program, the Betty Field Writing Contest, English Basic Skills Clinics, Career Fair, Staff Appreciation, Student Assistance, Student Recognition, Volunteers, Sports Calendars, Sports Game Day and Music Programs, School Spirit, and community Involvement. We also held three Parent Nights this year to help inform parents on issues affecting their students: Helping Your Teen – Knowing Health and Safety Issues (a discussion of the Coronado health curriculum relating to suicide prevention, safety and sexuality and how to discuss these topics with your student); Safe Schools and Social Networking Safety (Internet and cell phone safety); and Teen Nutrition and Meal Planning for Busy Families. Coronado PTA would like to thank all our great parent and student volunteers who have contributed close to 5000 hours so far this year, exceeding our goal of 4000. The staff, teachers, and students all benefit from your involvement! Thank you to everyone for helping us in our efforts to help all students. I would like to extend a special thank you to our members. We ended the year with 204 members (a 23% increase from last year): 75 staff/teachers, 122 parents, and 7 students. We also are pleased to have 13 Business Partners: Alpine Chef Catering, The Hub, Sherwin Williams, the Spicy Pickle, Pikes Peak National Bank, Apre Photography, the Gill Foundation, Chipotle, Pepsi, Elizabeth Wynn (Woodmen Nissan), Floorcraft, ProTeam Realtors (Doug and Lori DeWitt), and Alta Vista Chiropractic. And finally, a special thanks to the following Committee Chairs who have devoted so much of their time to Coronado: Lynn Lovato, Diane Hoff, Maribeth Netherton, Lynn Roth, Velda Baker, Anne Bakken, Denise Foley, Kathy Scarangella, Kristine Strauch, Connie Justice, Zandra Zeiman-Foster, Dawn Atkinson, Lin Quinlan, and Karen Logan.

Sincerely, Nora Brown, PTA President
