Maybe This Will Help - Math Grading Explained

Math grades are based on a weighted scale.  Homework and class work comprise 10% of the grade.  Assessments (tests, quizzes, projects, presentations, evidence cards, etc.) comprise 90% of the grade.  In Parent-Connect, homework will be designated by “HW”.  All other assignments are considered assessments.

How to figure the current grade:

Number of HOMEWORK points EARNED
------------------------------------------------------    = ____  X   10  =  “HOMEWORK” grade
Number of HOMEWORK points POSSIBLE

Number of ASSESSMENT points EARNED
------------------------------------------------------- = _____ X  90  =  “ASSESSMENT” grade
Number of ASSESSMENT points POSSIBLE

HOMEWORK grade   +   ASSESSMENT grade   =   CURRENT grade

The LETTER GRADE is determined with the following scale:

90 – 100 A
80 –89 B
70 –79 C
60 –69 D
Below 59 F

Below is an example of what you will see on Parent Connect:

Example

                                 8 + 6           14
Homework Grade:    -------     =   -----    =     .777    X    10     =       7.77
                                10 + 8          18

                                   10+10+10+10+8+5+8+8+850        919
Assessment Grade:   ------------------------------------------ = ------ = .8517  X  90  =  76.65
                                 10+10+10+10+10+10+10+10+999  1079

Current Percentage:   7.77 + 76.65  =  84.42%   which is a “B”
