Community Located at the foot of Pikes Peak on the west of Colorado Springs, Colorado is nestled in area know as the The Mesa and overlooks the Garden of the Gods. Coronado opened in 1970 and is one of five high schools in Colorado Springs, School District #11, the largest district in Colorado Springs. District #11 serves 31,944 students and is located in the heart of Colorado Springs metropolitan area. Colorado Springs is home to the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado College, University of College and the Olympic Training Center. School Coronado is a comprehensive high school for grades nine through twelve. The current enrollment is 1,650 students. Coronado is home to several award-winning academic and vocational programs including the CISCO Networking Academy, ProStart, Project Lead-the-Way,a and an Automotive Technician Program. Colorado High School is accredited by the North Central;l Association of Secondary Schools and by the Colorado Department of Education. The school is a member of the Rocky Mountain Association of College Admission Counseling, the College Board, the Colorado School Councilor Association, the the Colorado Council on High School/ College Relations. Faculty The faculty consists of a principal , three assistant principals, five full time counselors, two library technology specialists, one literacy specialist, one gifted specialist/post-secondary coordinator, one athletic director/business manager and 87 full and part time Colorado state certified teachers. Coronado has an experienced and award – winning staff, 75% of our faculty have earned at least one advanced degree. One faculty member has earned a PHD, 79 have eared at least a master’s degree and 27 have bachelor degrees.Curriculum Coronado Students may choose from traditional, college prep, Advanced Placement, the CU Succeed Gold Prost-Secondary, or vocational programs. Coronado offers a challenging and exciting curriculum with 200 course offerings. The offering include over 22 honors-level courses and 12 Advanced Placement Courses. Students can pursue additional academic challenges by taking post-secondary courses through Pikes Peak Community College or the University of Colorado. Project Lead the Way The applied technology department offers a four-year pre-engineering program entitled Project Lead the Way. This program allows students to explore the field of engineering and engineering technology through a series of classes that include computer-aided drafting, design, prototyping and fabrication. Teacher Cadet Coronado High School offers an intense teacher training program for high school students. This interactive program studies the growth and development of the learner, explores the role of the teacher in the school and discusses the role of the school in society. It also provides practical field experience for students in the classroom. Cisco Networking Academy The Cisco Networking Academy vocational program centers on teaching students to design, build, and maintain computer networks. The program qualifies students to pursue a number of industry-standard certifications including the Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CNNA) and the compTIA certification. ProStart Prostart is a 2-year nationally certified program that gives 11th and 12th grade students experience and career exploration opportunities in restaurant, hotel, and hospitality industries.
