Principal’s report

4.1 Number of students permitted out is 38.   Number of students permitted in is78, which includes 20 permits out of district. Total students are 407. We cannot get an accurate count on number of home school students at this time. The number of students permitted out does not include home school, charter or private.

4.2 DAAC meeting was on RTI, Response to Intervention. Children identified for SpEd had been pulled out, but with RTI, the SpEd teacher (Resource teacher) goes into the classroom to service students. The Resource Teachers are assigned to a classroom teacher every day. Speech and occupational therapy are still pullouts. RTI is being tested in the District with a pilot program, but Chipeta is not part of that test. Chipeta implemented RTI this year because it seemed like a good idea. Many more students will benefit from extra teacher attention.

4.3 Tutoring program starts 9/19/05. Deb Ramsey is the new additional tutor.

4.4 Chipeta T.V. has started. Focus in on Character Counts student awards.

4.5 Dibbles testing is complete as is Terra Nova. Dibbles gives a measure on Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Comprehension, Fluency and Vocabulary. More students may be on ILP until students and teachers become accustomed to the test. In addition, this test more closely identifies reading issues, and thus some students may be placed on ILPs because they have difficulty with one of the five areas tested.  Students are re-tested every 2 weeks in the area(s) in which they need assistance.

4.6 Chipeta raised $1,700 for Hurricane relief.
