Chipeta Elementary School

Building Advisory Accountability Committee

Monday, October 10, 2005

1.  The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.

2.  Attendance

2.1. Present:  Troy Gedack, Richard George, Mona Egger, Anne Wolf, Christine Benne, Lori Butler, Debbie Ramsey, Rachel Dewey, Tim O’Brien, Dave Bergacker, Doug Abernathy

3.  Minutes:  The September 12th minutes were approved as amended.

4. Principal’s report

4.1. Lori Butler submitted a list of available programs at Chipeta. Subjects include: reading, math, writing, science, social studies, other curricular, dicipline, and non-curricular, as well as clubs. The list numbered 44 programs currently being used by staff, and was passed on to District 11 administration.

The list is available in the office for those interested in reviewing a copy.

4.2 RtI (Response to Intervention) is being well received by the teachers because more students have more face time with licensed teachers.

4.3 Lori explained the child study process. Basically, Mrs. Schulte, the classroom teacher, RtI, the child’s parents and Lori meet to discuss the issues and develop interventions. If the interventions are not as successful as planned, then the child is tested. In order to place a child on an IEP, the discrepancy between the test score and the child’s performance must equal a state mandated benchmark. However, students who do not qualify for an IEP are still receiving attention from RtI teachers in the classroom. Currently 32 students are on IEPs, split between 4 RtI teachers.

4.4 Parents who are concerned that their child may be dyslexic must receive a medical diagnosis. Students are not tested for dyslexia during child study testing. Chipeta does have reading programs available through the RtI to address dyslexic tendencies. Two of the programs available are Linguistic Remedies and Lindamood Bell.

4.5. The LRT is giving support to teachers who have many students on ILPs due to the new Dibbles test. Next year, the test may be given a few weeks later in the fall. This may reduce the number of students on ILPs.

4.6 Chipeta out-performed all other D-11 elementary schools on our last quarterly assessments.
