BAAC Meeting Minutes

February 12, 2007

1.0    Meeting called to order at 6:30pm

2.0    Attendance:  Dave Bergacker, Lori Butler, Julie Evans, Julie Randall, Tim O’Brien, Anne Wolf, Christine Benne

3.0    Minutes: The January minutes were read and approved.

4.0    Principals Report:

-The District Kindergarten Committee recommended all day kindergarten be paid and provided for all kindergarten students.  Chipeta has space for 3 all day classes.

-District 11 has put out the Fall 2006 enrollment projections.  There are two new district elementary schools for the fall.  Chipeta currently has 389 students enrolled with a fall projection of 373.

-Mrs. Butler put together a Security Survey to be presented to the school community.  There are 3 options:  Option 1—no changes.  Option 2—add only a camera at a cost of appox. $1,000.  Option 3—add camera and buzzer system at a cost of approx $3000.

Also, an invitation to the community to attend the BAAC meetings will be added.

--Mrs. Bulter presented 3rd quarter SIP

--Bond Money—there is still some debate on either remodeling the bathrooms or completing the carpeting of the school.  When presented to the staff, they would like the carpeting done.  Mrs. Butler will have someone come out and give a up to date pricing of the carpet.  A different company will be doing the carpet now than the company that did the hall carpet 2 years ago.  The color will be very similar.

-----The BAAC committee voted and approved carpeting the classrooms of the school with the bond money available.

-Parking—at a cost of $75,000, a retaining wall could be added after taking some of the burm away from the lower parking area, this would allow a ‘kiss and go’ and drive through lane with the parking spaces pushed toward the street.  Mt.  Shadows Homeowner Assoc. has no covenants for the berm.

--At a cost of $125,000 to do a loop around that would level the berm and close off the existing exit and add a few more parking spaces.  There is a cost $25,000 for lighting in the lower parking area.  There has been a suggestion to make changes along Ramsgate Street to allow for the drop off area.  Lori will talk to the district about the new suggestion.
