Building Advisory Accountability Committee

Monday, August 25th,05

1. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm.

2.  Attendance

2.1 Present:  Troy Gedack, Richard George, Anne Wolf, Lynn Lovato, Lori Butler, Christine Benne, Mona Egger, Rachel Dewey, Dave Bergacker

                2.2 Guest Speakers Present:  Greg Gustavson, Frank Burnhardt

3. Minutes: The May 9, 2004 minutes were approved.

4.  Principal’s report

                4.1 The “kiss and go” policy in the drop off area is alleviating traffic congestion.

                4.2 Spanish enrichment classes will be offered two days a week for 4th and 5th grade.

                4.3 Open house was successful with 70 percent attendance.

4.4 K thru 3 has average class size of 21- 22.  4th has 27 and 5th has 24,  410 students total.

4.5 We accepted 74 permits, and denied 18 as we were full at that time, however, 8 students did not show. Neighborhood students have since filled these 8 spots.

4.6 SIP is completed. Lori passed around the CSAP percentage increase/decrease results by school.

4.7 We will be researching the number and reasons for home school families in our area, and those in private schools to assess marketing needs and ways to promote Chipeta.

5. Sub Committee Reports

5.1 New DAAC committee representative will be Rachel Dewe
           5.2 Budget, Attendance and Discipline is Mona Egger

            5.3 SIP

5.3.1 This is Lynn’s last year, and we need two new BAAC volunteers to train with her.

5.3.2 Lynn presented the SIP. Chipeta met AYP in reading and math. The SIP was approved as submitted. Thanks to Lynn for organizing the data. The entire SIP packet is available electronically from Lynn.

 6. New Business

                6.1   Guest Speakers from D-11

6.1.1 Guest Speaker Frank Burnhardt, Building Manager, and Glen Gustavson ,CFO,  explained the $131.7m Capital Plan for D-11. The Bond passed (3F), but the mill levy to fund the bonds (3G) did not pass. The mill levy question is on the November ballot again.

6.1.2. The Capital Plan is as follows:  Capital Renewel accounts for 40 percent, Capital Improvements is 36%, Capital utilization is 20% and project management is 4%. The vast majority of funds will be used for comfort, and safety improvements. The average age of a D-11 building is 44 years old.  4 mills will pay for the bond, and the cost for homeowner is $16 per $100,000.

6.1.3. Chipeta improvements slated are:  intercom, traffic flow, carpet, HVAC controls, chalkboards, electrical and playground repairs.

6.1.4. Holmes is slated for $3,672,000 and Coronado for $4,207,500 in renewel or improvement.

7. Old Business

                5.1 We need new members from Chipeta. Tim O’Brien will be our community member.
