General Meeting

August 23, 2005

Call to Order:

The general meeting of the Chipeta PTA was held in the gym at Chipeta Elementary on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 and called to order at 6:33pm.  President Stacy Papenfuss presided and Candy Archdale recorded the minutes.  The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.

Treasurers Report: 

The treasurer, Lisa Strauch reported line items for income and expense categories.  A motion to approve the 2005-2006 PTA budget was adopted.

Principals Report:

Student enrollment is at 410 students.

Chipeta did extremely well on CSAP scores- detailed statistics will be posted to parents

Open house is this Thursday, Aug 25.

Presidents Report:

The playground equipment purchased with last years PTA funds should be placed sometime in late September or early October.

Advertising space is available for the Chipeta directory to cover printing costs.  Directories will be free to all Chipeta families.

Mrs. Schulte has information on  Operation School Bell, a program to provide clothing to students with special financial needs.  Please ask her for more information.

Committee Reports:

Boxtops:  Currently working on contest to enhance participation

Campbell Labels:  We will be purchasing something from the catalog with last years earnings

Printer Cartridges:  Accepting cartridges and used cell phones

BAAC:   Next meeting Aug 29, School Improvement Plan will be discussed- All are welcome

ArtSmart:  No report

Board of Arts- Committee chair is currently available

Carnival/Sock Hop:   No Report

Health/Safety:      Vision and Hearing Screening Sept 12 & 13- volunteers needed.     

     Safety Town- Sept 20^th

                             Tar Wars- more information to come

                              Assembly/ Fire Safety- more information to come       

Hospitality:    Back to School Night, Welcome Back Reception very successful

                       Winter Luncheon next function                                               

                        Legislative:   In the process of learning the rules for bond issue support

 Membership   Dues are currently being collected

 PAL/PAM:  Sign up for program are in teachers classrooms.  Chipeta staff  Math Goal Team will 

                     help refine math program

 Publication   Newsletter deadline is  September 1

Student Enrichment:    New golf classes will be offered.  Program will begin in October

Volunteers:  Ticket for time changes must be submitted immediately.  Volunteers must keep

                     track of hours and will be asked to record them online in future. 

Ways & Means:   Bingo- amount of winnings will be changed to boost fundraising amounts

                             Entertainment Books on sale Aug 31 to Sept 12

                              Pizza Pals will be sold in September

                              New fundraiser will be clothing sales in Oct/Nov

Yearbooks:   Each classroom will ask for a parent yearbook coordinator

                      There will be a new photographer this year and yearbook vendor for printing

New Business

It was moved the PTA petty cash fund available in the Chipeta office to students who forgot their lunch money be increased by $15.00.  The motion was adopted.

Upon the recommendation of the school Principal, a motion for the PTA to pay for one half of the cost of a Character Counts Assembly,  presented to all students in October,  in the amount of $250.00 was adopted. 

The next regular PTA meeting will be Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at 6:30 pm
