Please do not send your child to school sick.  A child needs to stay home for at least 12 hours after illness symptoms subside (fever, vomiting, diarrhea).  If a child is prescribed antibiotics for a contagious illness, such as strep, he/she must have been taking them for at least 24 hours before returning to school.

 

Please try to schedule medications around the school day if at all possible.  For example, antibiotics that are to be administered 3X/day can typically be given in the morning, after school and before bedtime.

 

Here are the proper guidelines for medications at school:

 

¨ Medications must be in the original container with proper labeling.

 

¨ The blue medication form must be completed and signed by both the physician and the parent.

 

¨ Over-the-counter medications also require a completed and signed medication form and a properly labeled container.  This is to assure the safety of every student at school (to prevent allergic reactions or incorrect dosages).

 

¨ A parent should bring in medications.

 

¨ If your child uses an inhaler, we need a medication form signed by the parent and physician noting when the student should use the inhaler and it should be left in the front office.

 

Your child’s health and well-being is of the utmost importance.  Good health promotes good learning.

If plans change for a student to get home, please call the front office 328-7100 and Mrs. Sidney will make sure your child gets the message - calling the classroom will result in a voice mail message and may not be checked before the bell rings at the end of the day!
