How to Enroll:
Buena Vista Montessori, A Colorado Springs District #11 Public School
Application for Admission
At Buena Vista Elementary School we value the admission process, as each new family's opportunity to experience our community of learners and to learn about the Montessori educational philosophy. Buena Vista Elementary School looks for students that will thrive in a multi-age environment that provides freedom of choice within limits while supporting the development of individual autonomy, intellectual curiosity, and personal and social responsibility. Families are expected to work with Buena Vista in a spirit of respect and collaboration that will support their child and our mission. Thank you for considering Buena Vista.
Application Process
Parent Observation
Parents are expected to visit and observe the level their child is applying for to gain a sense of our school. Please note that observation sessions are for adults only. This visit will include a brief video and two classroom observations using a Learning Styles Assessment tool to identify key behaviors and skills appropriate to that level. Please call the office to make an appointment for an observation and/or request an information packet, 719-328-4100.
Child Visit
After your parent observation, we schedule a special time for your child to visit in the classroom. Faculty work with, observe and conduct a Learning Styles Assessment for your child to see if s/he is at a level of maturity to be comfortable and productive in that environment. The length of the visit varies with the age of the child from 30 minutes for primary and lower elementary to 1 1/2 hours for upper elementary.
Assimilation Review Conference
Within the first two to three weeks of school you will be invited to a conference with your child’s teacher and the principal. During this conference you will have the opportunity to review the Learning Styles Assessment that will be completed on your child.
Entrance Age Requirements
Pre-K children must be 3 years old by October 1 and potty trained.
Kindergarten children must be 5 years old by October 1.
