Our Solar System consists of Nine Planets that we Know of or recognize...

  1. Mercury
  2. Venus
  3. Earth
  4. Mars
  5. Jupiter
  6. Saturn
  7. Uranus
  8. Neptune
  9. Pluto
  10. Are there others???

 

Inner Planets

 

Inferior Planets

 

The first four planets out from the sun are referred to as the Inner Planets
...They are also known as the Terrestrial Planets

The planets between Earth and the Sun are also known as the Inferior Planets

Outer Planets

 

The rest of the planets are the Outer Planets

 

Superior Planets  

- The planets farther out from the Sun than the Earth are also known as the Superior Planets

 

Gas Giants  

- The outer planets (other than Pluto) are called the Gas Giants

 

Jovian Planets  

- The outer planets (other than Pluto) are also called the
Jovian Planets after Jove, another name for Jupiter, by Jove!

 

Other Solar System Objects

 

 

Then, there are the Other Solar System Objects, such as
Orbits  
Planets orbit around the sun in ellipses.
