Astronomical History!

Humans have been looking at the sky for as long as we've been on Earth.

On this page we'll look into this history.

STAR MYTHS and Constellation Lore

ArcheoAstronomy is the name given to the study of Ancient Astronomy.  This link to Pomona College has good information, including:  Useful Links for Astronomy and History of Ancient World Astronomy.

You might wish to visit their Multicultural Cosmology Educational Resource Center

To investigate the History of the Zodiac,  the instructor may have you read  an article from Sky and Telescope magazine, from the October 1995 issue.  It traces the ancient origins of the zodiac back to their roots in prehistory.

 ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
What's that?  You think that astrology is incompatible with astronomy?  Of course it is.  Or is it?
Essentially ALL astronomers, for the whole of human history until only the last four or five hundred years, have been astrologers in one sense or another, and some of the more recent ones were, too.

Astrology Resources is a page of links to aid a search for information.

We must understand some things about astrology to understand and appreciate modern astronomy to the greatest extent we can.

However, this does not mean that you will be reading your horoscope in class!

If you read your horoscope, and use it as a guide, ask yourself this question:

Did your horoscope, or the horoscopes for all those affected by the disaster of 9/11/01 (victims and their families and friends, which must account for every zodiacal sign), give you or them ANY warning whatsoever about what was to happen that day? Wasn't 9/11 significant enough and big enough to jump right out of the horoscopes as a Big Red Warning?

So what does a horoscope do for you, actually?

If the planets will tell you that you need to take care financially, or in your love life,

Don't you think they would notice the upcoming murder of almost 3,000 people?

Okay, now take this test.

Read through the page above. Click on the links. Think about what you're seeing. Ask each other what you think about these things.

Please do NOT go on until you have taken and passed this test!

Now go on to the Solar System...
