If you have trouble creating tables (sometimes, WORD just acts crazy and the formatting just won't work the way you want it to) open a new document and do the tables there, attaching it to the questions when you are done.

WORD Test 5       (2 Points)

               Name______________________________Date___________

1. Create a Table below here of the following dimensions: 4 cells X 4 cells.

2. Change the row height of any one row in the table above to 1", and the column width of any one column to .5" (that's 1/2").

3. Add a row to the 4x4 table above.

4. Create a 6X6  table below here.

5. Use the Table AutoFormat button to format the 6x6 table above. Use any style that is distinct from the plain one you created in number 1, and which will SHOW ALL THE CELLS. (Scroll through the examples if you have any questions, look for the ones with all cells visible. The 3-D ones are good ones)

6. Create a 5X5 table. Type or copy these 4 words into 4 cells of the 5x5 table:

     Do or Do Not

- then -

a. make those rows at least .7" high, and the columns at least wide enough to do the following:

b. align those cells in 4 different ways of the 9 possible alignment styles. (Again, make the cells, rows, or columns big enough so that I can see that you have used 4 of the possible alignments)

7. Add random cells to the above table using the pencil feature.

8. Create a new 3X3 table below here and make it invisible. Copy this sentence into one of the middle cells so that it's obvious it is in a cell even though the cell can't be seen.

EXERCISE  DIRECTIONS:

Format a table.  1 Point

Your assignment:

  1. Open this file: Computer Skills Inventory

...Clicking on this LINK opens up a Word Document, which you must save on your computer before proceeding.

  1. Click File>Save As... a Word Document.

  2. Save to the Desktop.

  3. Click the Back button as soon as you are done saving it.

  4. Minimize other windows so you can see the file on the desktop and open it. It will be in Word.

It contains the plainly formatted table that you will improve for this assignment...

Click HERE to see a sample image of this table that you will duplicate in order to complete this assignment... [If the image of this document is too small to read, you must move your Mouse over it until this button appears, then Click on this button to expand the image so that you will be able to read it.]

  1. Use Table AutoFormat to help. (But, you will have to scroll through the choices to find just the right one)

  2. Alter the correct Table AutoFormat to exactly match the example (however, you may find it's not possible to have the page break in exactly the same place, but yours should still flow to a second page).

NOTE: The heading rows on the second page are the same as the heading rows on the first page!  Do NOT simply copy these!  There is a utility provided by Word that makes repeating the heading rows (hint, hint) easy!

Save to your "U" drive as previously instructed.
