The Mouse

The mouse is your primary navigation tool in Windows 2000.

These are the main ways you will use the mouse:

CLICK means to press the left (primary) mouse button.
When you click an object you make it active.

Double-click means to press the left mouse button twice quickly.
 

bullet

Right-click means to press the right (secondary) mouse button.
 

bullet

To drag an object with the mouse pointer, point to the object and
press and hold down the left mouse button.
 

bullet

When you have moved the object to where you want it, release the mouse button to “drop” the object.

 

Adjust Mouse Settings

 

 
You can:

Adjust the speed of the mouse pointer.
 

bullet

Adjust the mouse for left-handed users.
 

bullet

Make the pointers larger or smaller.
 

bullet

You can also show the trail of the pointer, which is helpful
if you are using the computer with a projection device.
 

bullet

For those who cannot use a mouse, keyboard alternatives
are available through the Accessibility Wizard.

To Adjust Mouse Settings:

  1. Click Start to display the Start menu.
  2. Point to Settings and then click Control Panel from the submenu.
  3. Double-click the Mouse icon to open the Mouse Properties dialog box.

Your Mouse Properties Dialog Box may look different than this one.

Usually, these boxes are intuitive to use.

Often, additional Mouse Driver Software has been loaded on a computer.

bullet

You may have bought a new mouse yourself, like a new optical or wireless mouse.
