Welcome back to another edition of Nick's Notes.

  • Recently, 22 students from Holmes Middle School's Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) team attended the 2017 Colorado State Conference to showcase the leadership skills they have developed through the year. Every Holmes competitor received a medal, with five of these students earning gold medals and qualifying for competition at the 2017 National FCCLA Leadership Conference, to be held in Nashville, TN, July 1-7. The gold medalist are: Elizabeth Gumper (Recycle & Redesign), Maile Sufak (Career Investigation), Elle Gray, Sydney Buesser, and Erin Gray (a team in Life Event Planning). In addition to the five gold medals, Holmes students earned fourteen silver and three bronze medals.

At the high school level, Palmer student Ryan Hancock and Coronado student Julia Austin earned gold medals. Julia will also be competing at the 2017 National FCCLA Leadership Conference. In addition, students from Mitchell, Palmer, and Coronado earned two bronze and two silver medals.

Congratulations to all these hard-working, future leaders!

  • The first annual Cops and Kids Dodgeball Tournament was held on Saturday at Coronado High School. The event raised over $1,000 for suicide prevention and two D11 teams took top honors! Congratulations to the Roy J. Wasson Academic Campus team who took first place and Coronado High School who took third place! Thanks to Coronado High School for hosting the event and for all the teams that participated.
