Data

The collection and analysis of data are central to the Response to Intervention model.  At every level, data are used to screen, identify, progress monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.  Data appear in the form of quick assessments in reading, math and writing.

Collected data are used to create a visual representation of a student’s performance as shown in a variety of graphs.  The analysis of data drives the choice of interventions for the individual student.  Data also guide the Problem Solving Team in changing an intervention or choosing new interventions when the current interventions is not effective.

  • At the beginning of the school year, the teacher tests the students and finds most students are reading at 24 words per minute.

  • The target for the end of the year is 52 words per minute.

  • Egbert is reading 11 words per minute.  He needs targeted help.  The teacher does a 3 minute test every week.  By week four, Egbert is further behind.

  • The teacher works with the Intervention Team.  They create an action plan with a key intervention.  The intervention helps Egbert get back on track.

  • By week 8, Egbert is catching up to the class. The teacher sets a new goal for him and continues the intervention.

  • By 20 weeks, Egbert reads at the same level as the rest of his classmates.
