Parents of Incoming Freshman

Dear Incoming Freshman Parents:

You and your student stand at the threshold of a new, exciting period of change.  This letter is written to offer you a chance to pave the road your maturing child will walk for the next four years.  Given the chance, would you want your voice to be heard when important decisions need to be made?  Each parent is given that chance.

Palmer High School incoming freshmen will benefit from the Link Crew mentoring program that has been put in place to ease your student's transition to high school.  Implementation of this program came about as a direct result of the work of the Palmer High School Building Accountability Committee (BAC).

Parents and Community Members
Dear Palmer Parents:

What makes Palmer the right school for your student?  The teachers?  The location?  The International Baccalaureate program?  Athletics?  Advanced Placement?  Jazz band?  Maybe because you or other family members are alums of CSHA/PHS?  Did you know that in the last school year, we’ve had students who are state champions in mock trial, history documentary, poetry recitation and public policy debate?  Your student has about two million minutes between the end of middle school and his or her high school graduation.  How do you want them to spend that time?

William J. Palmer High School is a terrific school, and can provide your student with an outstanding experience.  What does it take to create and maintain that environment?  Cooperation between teachers, administrators, students, support staff and parents working together is a good start.

There are numerous opportunities for parents to work together within the school.  Depending on what activities interest your student, I hope you will consider being a part of the associated parent or booster organization.  There is one place where all these groups come together, and that is the Palmer High School Building Advisory and Accountability Committee (BAC).

The BAC works with the school administration on how to achieve the goals stated in the annual School Improvement Plan (SIP), reviews programs and activities in the building, reviews and creates parent/staff/student surveys, all with an eye on achievement

All parents are welcome on the committee and I would personally invite you to attend one of our meetings so that you can see how we work.  We meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 a.m. for one hour in the Palmer Community Room.  Our first meeting at Palmer for the 2009-2010 school year will be on August 8, 2009.

If you have any questions you would like to have answered before you attend a meeting, please call either Lara Disney, Assistant Principal, at 328-5003, or the committee chair, Chuck Theobald, at 442-0602.
Welcome to Palmer!  We are glad you are here.  Please help us maintain our tradition of excellence.  Together we can make a difference!

Chuck Theobald
