ACCEPTABLE USE AGREEMENT FOR STUDENTS - High School
The smooth operation of the District's Electronic Communication and Access networks ("D-11 Net") relies upon users following established standards of proper conduct. In order to be granted access to the District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources, a user must agree to follow the District’s Electronic Communication and Access Resources policies and regulations and the provisions of this Agreement. In general, this requires efficient, ethical, and legal use of Electronic Communication and Access Resources. If a user violates this Agreement or any of the District’s policies, regulations, procedures or guidelines, access to the District’s Electronic Communication and Access Resources may be denied and other legal or disciplinary action may be taken. The District will cooperate fully with local, state, or federal officials in any investigation concerning or relating to misuse of the District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources.
The District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources are the property of the District and their use is a privilege, not a right.GUIDELINES FOR USE OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION AND ACCESS RESOURCES
General
• Use of the District ’s Electronic Communication and Access Resources must be supportive of educational and administrative objectives, be consistent with the mission and curriculum of Colorado Springs School District Eleven, and must be for school-related purposes.
• While users are prohibited from any personal use that does not conform with the requirements identified immediately above, using Electronic Communication and Access Resources to conduct a personal business is specifically prohibited.
• The District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources may not be used to harass any person on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability, or any other basis. Ref. File: AC, GBAA, JBB. District policies prohibiting harassment apply to the use of the District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources.
• Users must follow local, state, and federal laws, such as but not limited to the Copyright Law, licensing laws, privacy laws, and District policies, regulations, and guidelines, including the District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources policy.
• Users are responsible for maintaining confidentiality of passwords, and protecting accounts from misuse.
• If users are negligent with passwords, they may be held responsible for damages.
• Users must follow the acceptable use agreement of any accessed D-11 Net.
• Use of Electronic Communication and Access Resources to access or process pornographic material, inappropriate text or graphic files, files which may be harmful to themselves and others, or files dangerous to the integrity of the D-11 Net is prohibited.
• Any attempt to circumvent security measures or filters is prohibited.
• Users may be held responsible for damage done to D-11 Net software, data, user accounts, hardware and/or for unauthorized costs incurred by
users.
• System users will not load, install or access “boot-leg” software or unauthorized software.
• System users may not upload or download public domain programs for their own use and may not redistribute a public domain program without permission from the District system administrator. System users are responsible for determining whether a program is in the public domain.
• Electronic Communication and Access Resources shall be through District approved resources and/or services.
• Users may not load, upload, download, or install software on the District network that is not owned by the District, unless specifically approved by the Deputy Superintendent/CIO.
• Users may not install or attach hardware to the District network that is not owned by the District, unless specifically approved by the Deputy Superintendent/CIO.
• Users may not access “chat rooms” or other forms of direct electronic communications.
• Electronic Communication and Access Resources are to be accessed only by the owner of the account.
D-11Net, E-Mail and Internet E-Mail Prohibitions
• Sending e-mail through an anonymous re-mailer.
• Using improper language, i.e., swearing, vulgarity, ethnic or racial slurs, and any other use of language that violates a school or District policy or regulation.
• Spreading falsehoods about a person that lowers the affected individual in the eyes of the community.
• Pretending to be someone else when sending/receiving messages.
• Transmitting obscene, pornographic, or inappropriate messages, pictures or graphics.
• Revealing personal information such as addresses or phone numbers of the user or others.
• Using the D-11 Net in such a way that would disrupt the use of the D-11 Net by other users.
• Sending unnecessary or excessive messages and images.
• Creating, sending, or forwarding chain letters.
• Creating, sending, or forwarding any message that causes D-11 Net congestion or interferes with the delivery of mail to others.
• Sending e-mail to anyone who asks you not to.
• Accessing the District’s Electronic Communication and access resources without permission.
• Forging or attempting to forge electronic mail messages.
• Attempting to read, delete, copy, or modify the electronic mail of other system users or interfere with the ability of other system users to send/receive electronic mail.
• Not deleting electronic mail in accordance with District guidelines.
• Downloading attachments into the district system that does not meet the Acceptable Use Guidelines.
• Sending yourself mail from a non-district account that does not meet District requirements for acceptable use.
Monitored Use
• The District reserves the right to access, retrieve, print, read, disclose to third parties or otherwise monitor (i) all messages sent or received through its e-mail system; (ii) all sites visited and files downloaded on the Internet; and (iii) all other uses of the District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources.
• Reasons for which the District or others authorized by it may access such information include, but are not limited to: (i) to determine whether a violation of this policy or other District policies has occurred; (ii) to investigate and repair a failure or error in the Electronic Communication and Access Resources system; or (iii) to obtain information requested by a third party in litigation or in response to a government investigation.
• Messages sent over the District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources system and other uses of the District's Electronic
Communication and Access Resources should not be considered private or confidential.
• Your use of the District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources system and your signature on this Agreement constitute consent to access by the District or others authorized by it to all e-mail messages sent and received by you, to sites visited on and files downloaded from the Internet and to all other uses of the District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources system.
• Electronic messages sent or received by the Board, the District ’s employees or students, including electronic mail on District-owned equipment, as well as other documents generated through use of the District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources, may be considered a public record subject to disclosure or inspection under the Colorado Open Records Act.
Damage caused by a user
• Any attempt to harm or destroy any District equipment or materials, data of another user of the District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources is prohibited.
• Any willful harm or destruction to any District equipment or materials, data of another user of the District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources is prohibited.
• Any harm or destruction, that is the result of negligence, to any District equipment or materials, data of another user of the District's Electronic Communication and Access Resources is prohibited.
• Any damage to or interruption of the Electronic Communication and Access system may be viewed as violations of District policy and, possibly, as criminal activity under applicable state and federal laws. This includes, but is not limited to, the uploading or creating of computer viruses.
Disclaimer
• The District does not guarantee that the Electronic Communication and Access Resources will be uninterrupted or error free.
• Users are reminded that not all information found on the Internet is reliable.
• Opinions, advice, services, and all other information expressed by system users, information providers, service providers, or other third party individuals in the system are those of the providers and not the District.
• The District is not responsible for users' inability to access any outside E-mail account.
• The District is not responsible for users' inability to receive Internet E-mail messages.
• The District's system is provided on an "as is, as available basis.
Consequences
Failure to adhere to all District policies, regulations, procedures or guidelines regarding the use of District Electronic
Communication and Access Resources may result in immediate suspension of access to Electronic Communication
and Access Resources. Violation may also result in suspension or expulsion from school and liability for damages.
System users may also be subject to all civil and criminal penalties as defined in any applicable local, state or
federal laws.
I have read, understand, and agree to the statements set forth above. I also understand that it is my responsibility to report any violation of
this agreement by others.
Parents/Guardians should review this Agreement with their students. Please contact the building principal with any
additional questions, concerns, electronic resources you do not want your student to have access to, or if you
