Welcome to PHS!

General William J. Palmer High School is a modest-sized secondary school located in downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado. The school has a student body of approximately 1800, and attracts enrollment from all over the city. The flagship high school of School District 11, Palmer has the oldest International Baccalaureate (IB) program in the area, founded in 1993. Palmer is located at 301 North Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs. The present building was built by the Works Progress Administration under Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1940. Originally named Colorado Springs High School, Palmer High School was re-named in 1959 after the city's founder, General William Jackson Palmer.

Palmer Learning Forum Goes Live

Once District 11 approved the use of Wikis, the staff at Palmer conceived the idea of the Palmer Learning Forum. The Forum is hosted on District 11 servers so we have better control over the development and design of it. Our general goal is to give students and staff a vehicle where information is shared. Classes, courses, Professional Learning Communities, and other groups as needed will use the Forum. As one teacher mentioned, his classes get into a great discussion, the bell rings, and the discussion ends. With the Forum, the discussion can continue with students and teacher writing from home or school. The access to the forums is limited by passwords; others are open to the public. Eventually the private forums will have access through invitation/enrollment. To go to the forum, click here. The Forum can also accessed through a link on the student page.

Care and Share Fundraising

Care and Share officially starts on November 3rd. Student council representatives will be collecting every Tuesday and Thursday in second period classes for about three weeks. You will have the same two students each collection day so if there are any issues please let me know. Food is kept in my office, so let’s fill up the office this year. The collection dates are as follows: 11/4 11/6 11/13 11/18 11/20

Student government will also hold other activities such as Can-a-Date, a dance called Fall Fling in Eagle Wing, and pie in the eye, hat days, flannel PJ day, Slipper Day to promote and contribute to the donations.  We ask everyone to please attend these functions since they are promoting a worthy cause.  Remember that every dollar that is donated is equivalent to ten pounds of food.  We ask you to please contribute to the cause and help Palmer High School wipe out hunger!

District 11 Curriculum & Message

Subject Grade Level 21st Century Learning
Art 9th-12th A key component of 21st Century Learning is a guaranteed and viable curriculum that is accessible by students, parents, teachers administrators and support staff 24/7. In May, 2007 we began transferring our curriculum documents and resources to an online format. As you look through the course content for various grade levels, you will find electronic resources, digitized instructional videos, review games, and other supports for the variety of student interests and skill levels we find in our classrooms today. Parents will find helpful hints and strategies to support and extend learning opportunities at home.
