Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was born in 1807 and died in 1882. He was a poet, scholar, and a university professor. He was fluent in many languages and was known as an expert on modern languages as well as literature. However, Longfellow is probably best remembered for his poetry. He told wonderful stories through the use of verse. Two of his best know poems were “Hiawatha by the Shores of the Gitche Gumee” and “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere”. You probably have heard someone say. “Into every life a little rain must fall” or maybe you have heard someone say they want to leave “footprints on the sands of time.” If so, you have heard some of Longfellow's poetry quoted. Many of his words are well remembered and loved.
