Parents
You can help your
second grader as he/she continues to learn more sophisticated mathematics in
quarter 2 by helping with frequent practice of the concept of 10.
Understanding the different combinations that can be used to make 10 is
critical to number sense, place value, and higher level mathematics. Use
common items around the house for this activity. Tell simple math stories that involve adding or
subtracting small numbers, then have your child show you with objects like
beans or buttons. Have your child tell you about their thinking
and how they got the answer.
