Who Was Thomas B. Doherty?

Thomas B. Doherty was a District 11 superintendent. He began his education career in 1938 as a teacher in Montrose. He became the District 11 superintendent in 1964 and continued leading the ever expanding district until his retirement in 1977. Mr. Doherty died in 1992. He continues to be remembered for his calm district leadership, and ever-present attendance at the Doherty sporting events. He loved the students and they loved him. He was a “guiding light, a giant presence, a sports fan and an anchor of security for employees and teenagers alike,” according to Ralph Routon, a columnist for The Gazette Telegraph.
