Lost and Found: Attention parents: Have you been searching...searching...searching for items you know your children have somewhere????
Are you wondering where your student's jacket, glasses, keys, or hoodies are? In the main hallway at Coronado we have a large lost and found. Everyday it grows. We attempt to return the items to their owners, but it's not possible all the time. Please send your student to the main hallway to look through the items. Or please stop by yourself and have a look.
Attendance Corner
And did you know that we are FLOODED with calls around 7:30 - 8:00 each morning, which is also
when we tend to have a long line of students at our window? It’s frustrating for parents to be put on
hold, but sometimes it’s unavoidable for us. Feel free to call ANYTIME during the day, even 2:00 a.m. when you discover you child is ill! We’ll pick up the message as soon as we are able, and will take care of it on the computer.
Thanks so much. Feel free to let us know how we can better serve you! Sharon Tausan and Patti Margrave 328-3613.
Frequently Asked Attendance Questions
Sometimes when I call to excuse my student, I see an “E” for excused, and sometimes it’s a “B”.
What does a “B” code mean? Why is it called “Excused with reservation?”
Good question! School Board policy allows parents to excuse students on occasion for reasons
OTHER than illness. (Examples may include college visits, court appearances, car trouble, etc.) An“E” is used for illness, while the “B” code is used for those other situations. If “excused with reservation” ab-
sences become excessive in any individual class, that instructor MAY choose to not allow full makeup credit.
Feel free to call Sharon Tausan or Patti Margrave in Attendance (328-3613) with your questions.
Have you ever wondered …
What do I do if my student has a medical appointment and needs to leave school in the middle of the day?
It’s easy! You have two choices. You can either call the attendance office a day in advance (328-3613) and let us know the
details, or you can send a note with your student the morning of the appointment. (Your student would bring the note to us in
the attendance office first thing that day).
In either case, we will write your student a pass for the appropriate departure time on the day of the appointment. If your student needs to leave in the middle of a period, he/she just shows that pass to the teacher, and then can walk out of the build
ing. (As long as your student remembers the pass and the appointment, you won’t need to come into the school). If your student returns to school later in the day, please have him/her swing back by the attendance office so that our records will be
accurate.
Feel free to call anytime with your questions!

Kids Speak Out
Is it possible for a child with a learning disability to also be gifted or talented? You bet. Children seldom come in
simple, easy-to-define packages. A child who is gifted in math abilities may find it very difficult to learn to read, or
might struggle with writing skills or spelling. Another child who writes easily and fluently can lose motivation in
math or science, or have problems when it comes to completing homework or class projects. A child who has a
vision or hearing impairment might be a gifted writer; a student who finds writing slow and painful may discover a
gift in the performing arts. On April 15 there will be an event entitled “Kids Speak Out” at the Penrose House from
6:30-8:00 pm, featuring a panel of high school twice exceptional children who will share their thoughts, successes
and challenges. For those who are interested in attending, please email your name and the number wanting to attend by assessing the following URL: kidsspeakout@yahoo.com.

Parent Alert
Coronado High School Policy on page 20 of the student handbook:
RADIOS/CD PLAYERS/PAGERS/CELLULAR PHONE.
Students’ radios and CD players may be used in the cafeteria and commons areas
with headphones. Pagers and cell phones must be turned off when students enter all buildings on campus. These items may be confiscated if improperly used.
Coronado High School has acknowledged that students can use cell phone in the commons areas on
campus as a means to communicate in case of an emergency.
However, music players, video players,
and game systems are for entertainment and have no purpose on campus.
Administration and staff have noticed that students are increasingly bringing and using their expensive
electronic devices on campus. This increased usage has become a distraction and an impediment to
the education of all students.
Parents, please help us by encouraging your daughter/son to leave their expensive electronic devices at
home. Coronado High School does not have the manpower or the resources to pursue lost or stolen
electronics. Students can fill out a lost/theft/vandalism report, but administration will not pursue recovering electronic devices.
In addition, any electronic device that is turned in to administration by a teacher for inappropriate use
on campus will not be released to the student, but a parent/guardian will be called to pick up the device.
Thank you for your help and support!
School Safety (Laser Devices)
Laser Devices are now considered “standard weapons” because they can cause temporary or permanent injury to the eye. Students in possession of one of these devices will be subject to disciplinary penalties as outlined under the standard weapons violations in the Student Code of Contact and Discipline Handbook.
