Current News

Art Club:

Art Club meets from 3:15 – 4:45 on Tuesdays for the rest of the semester in room 413. We decided to silkscreen the logo above on Art Club t-shirts. This time we are using red ink so it will show up on white, gold or black shirts for only $7.00.

Classes:

Photography is fun, and digital photography is more fun!
Steven Greenberg, Complete Idiot's Guide to Digital Photography

Digital Photography:
This is a fun course and you will learn to take terrific photographs with a digital camera. Yes, you must have a digital camera to take this course. Is a key chain camera good enough? NO! How about a cell phone that takes pictures? NO!! Is a dSLR required for this class? NO!!! Hmmmm...... then what do you need for Digital Photgraphy classes at Coronado?

There are lots of choices and price ranges, but whether you choose an entry-level compact, a midrange compact, or a dSLR camera, consider its capacity. Many digital cameras tody come with more megapixels than you need to take quality photos. Megapixels determine the size of the print, not the quality of the image.

"If you are not going to print larger than 8x10", a 5mg camera will suit you fine. In fact it will be more than you need, but it's hard to get a camera with less than 5mg these days. 10 - 12mg cameras are for [those] who need to print 24x36", Scott Kelby, The Digital Photography Book

Have you checked Class News on Zangle to see what exciting things are happening in your student’s art class?

Art Computer lab:

During the renovation, the upstairs studio was converted to a computer lab. We have 30 Dell computers with world standard software (Adobe Creative Suite). As soon as the computer tables arrive we will connect the printers and scanners. This is a big change that directs us toward the future of computer graphics and digital photography.

Our first semester was a little difficult with switching from darkroom photography and getting all the pieces in
the graphics lab functioning together. Now things are running smoothly: color prints for photo and digital art
students look professional, students follow projected demonstrations while they are online and we are de
lighted with the facility.

Student Shows:

Betsy Morgan, Ben Taber, Erin Hubl, Emily Jensen, Hannah Weydert, Kylie Robinson, Sara Price, and Elissa
Hockenstad were selected to show at the Air Force Academy Federal Credit Union Show in January at Imagi
nation Celebration in the Citadel Mall.

Art Student of the Month:
Philip Royalty has taken 3 Photography courses here at Coronado and is registered for Digital
Photography 4H beginning in January. Look for his excellent photos in display cases during December.
Congratulations, Phil!

Art Curriculum

There is considerable research on the academic value of students receiving
instruction in the Visual Arts. All District 11 art classes are taught by qualified art teachers. Students
will learn the elements of art and principles of design. They will learn about art in relation to
history, culture, and the community. They will also recognize and use the visual arts as a form of
communication, and will critique works of art through analysis, assessment, and evaluation.
All semester art courses earn 1 credit (Humanities or Elective). Sign up for 2 or more and have art
all year.
Coronado offers some great art classes for students interested in developing their creative brain.
Students can choose from 2 dimensional or 3 dimensional classes. All classes offer beginning and
advanced levels. Beginning next year, CHS will be offering AP Studio Portfolio for college credit in
the visual arts. Check out the course descriptions in the Coronado Course Catalog.

2Dimension: Drawing, Painting, Digital Photography, Computer Art
3Dimension: Ceramics, Jewelry, Sculpture

AP Studio Portfolio beginning Fall 09

Art Club
Art club meets every Thursday from 3:15-5:00.
Students will be focusing on aesthetics and
adding permanent artwork around the Coronado
campus. Everyone is welcome, you don’t
have to be an art student to join. Come be creative,
have fun and make art!!
