JOIN US IN COLORADO YOUTH OUTDOORS (LEVEL I)
C.Y.O is a program at Coronado for students and parents who have an interest in the outdoors. The program begins in September and continues through mid May on Wednesday evenings. he curriculum will focus on the following activities; Fly Fishing and casting; Fly Tying; Spin fishing and casting; Hunter Education, Trap Shooting, Sporting Clays, and Rifle Instruction; Archery; Survival Skills & Orienteering.
Class Times: Every other Wednesday Evening each month 6:00p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
C.Y.O. is limited to 40 participants (20 students and 20 parents).

News from the Coronado Science Club
Please congratulate the Coronado Science Olympiad Team a fine showing at the Colorado State Science Olympiad at the Colorado School of Mines on April 11th. The Team competed with 27 other high school teams from around the state. Scott Von Thun and Philip Royalty were awarded 1st place medals for Technical Problem Solving; Scott Von Thun and Jon Dickson earned 2nd place medals for Electric Vehicle; as well as did Garrett Seeman and Leah Simon. We also placed in the top ten: Cell Biology (8th) & Write It Do It (4th) All of these students did a great job representing Coronado. 2009 Science Olympiad members are: Jon Dickson, Ashley Gardner, Jenna Humble, Lindsey King, Michelle Manthei, Phil Royalty, Garrett Seeman, Chris Sherwood, Leah Simon, Brooke Sieck, and Scott Von Thun. Science Olympiad
Team, Beth Luke, Emily Asay, Taylor Jaquez and Danika Klebe. Notable results from the State tournament were; 4th place for Danika Klebe and Taylor Jaquez in Science Crime Busters; 5th place for Beth Luke and Joshua Munson in Compute This; 8th Place for Elizabeth Donahoo and Taylor Jaquez in Fossils; 9th place for Danika Klebe and Taylor Jaquez in Reach for the Stars; 10th place for Beth Luke, Danika Klebe, and Zackary Fackelman in Experimental Design. Congratulations also go out to all the other team members who participated including Emily Asay, Jacob Carson, Logan Taylor, Megan Disney and Timothy Barentine! Corrections to the Regional finishes: 1st place medals for Megan Disney and Emily Asay in Amphibians and Reptiles and Beth Luke and Taylor Jaquez in Elevated Bridge and 3rd place medals for Danika Klebe and Taylor Jaquez in Reach for the Stars!

Please congratulate MESA Student, Dan Nazabanita (10th) for being selected to attend the Engineering Summer Program at the Colorado School of Mines, June 7 27, 2009. Several students participated in the Colorado History Day competition at the University of Colorado, Denver on Saturday, May 2. Congratulations to Jasmine Kemble who was a state finalist for her individual exhibit on Madame Curie. Congratulations as well to the following students who also participated: Lindsey King (who won a top prize at the Pioneer Museum/Henderson Day competition a few weeks ago), Lauren Scott, Devon Allison, Colton Knopfle, Andrew Rose, Courtney Gillis, Anna Fahl, and Betsy Morgan. Won 1st Place in the scholarship competition sponsored by the Pikes Peak Jazz and Swing Society. 1st Place gets $2,000 in scholarship money to be used towards college music degree. Candidates were judged on recorded selections, then a live audition. Students must be seniors who will be taking at least 5 hours of music study in a college music program next school year.
